: : I had this happen and am not only sore and out of commission, but also extremely perplexed. Why did this happen? Am I alone? How do I keep this from happening again?

: My husband experiences something similar. At night before he falls asleep he sees these "flashes" of light which is accompanied by what sounds like many voices whispering at the same time, and he feels an immense pressure on his chest and head. These are frightening to him and myself.

: Then he has these sleep walking episodes where he jumps out of bed in a panicked state and does things like moves the bed across the room, saying it was sliding away from the wall - or he tries to run away brushing "spiders" off of him.

: I don't know what this is caused by, or how to help him. I'm hoping somebody out there can!

These are night terrors. I have them, too. They are sporadic in occurence. I wake up tired,
frustrated, and discouraged. I don't know what causes them, but on a previous message
board, one woman wrote how taking st. John's wort helped. The theory is that a brain
chemical imbalance causes them like a mineral deficiency can cause night time leg cramps.
Also very common themes are: spiders, snakes, fire, and feeling like the walls will fall in on you.
I have decided just today to talk to my doctor about them. I am reluctant, knowing she will
probably throw pills at me, but I have to at least try. Another note, it also appears to be
hereditary, at least in my family I am not the only one with sleep disturbances.
