Dear Ron, I took Ambien for two years. It was effective, and then it wore off. The doctor then switched me to Prosom, which also worked wonderfully for two years. Now, I'm an insomniac again. BUT, the Prosom was VERY effective for a long period of time. I take 2mg at bedtime. Ask your doctor about it. It definitely works quicker than Ambien.
