: : Greetings, I am new to this message board but certainly not new to sleep disorders! I am 35 years old and have 35 years worth of experience in "Rhythmic Movement Disorder" - AKA rocking!

: : I have been kicked out of beds and bedrooms all of my life for this rocking - as a baby I did it so hard that I once rolled my crib into the bedroom door and my parents had to climb through a window to get to me! I've had a dog back me because of this, I've been yelled at, cursed, hit, I've been pulled out of a tent on a camping trip and almost put IN a fire because they thought I had hypothermia - the fun just goes on and on.

: : I'd love to hear from others who have this disorder who know someone with it - I have tried ONCE to get help and am about to try again - ONE day I'd like to be able to spend ALL night in my wife's bed!

: : Eric

: Hi Eric. You are the very first adult that I've learned about who shares this exact problem. Every resource that I've contacted has said that rocking should disappear during childhood. For us it obviously hasn't. I've tried perhaps 3 or 4 different medications. Benzodiazepenes such as Valium did help, but A) I don't want to use Valium forever, and B) The effective dose caused horrible snoring. Pls let me know if you have any luck.

Hello to All,

In reply to the above messages, I cant believe I
Have found something on the net about rhythmic movement disorder.
Unfortunatley, I am at the receiving end of "The Rocking" as my Husband is "The Rocker".
After years of sleepless nights I am at my wits end, as from reading the above messages I take it that there is no known cure for this.
My husband is 30 years old has also been Rocking since childhood but never noticed until he met me and was woken with a very sharp elbow in the ribs every night.
I cant seem to get any info on this disorder, so any help would be appreciated.

Rhona
