Do a survey of your lifestyle and see if youn are doing anything to cause yourself to be unable to get to sleep. Caffeine (in sode etc or chocolate) lots of physical activity just before bedtime, eating, mental stimulation, stress, will all make sleep hard to come by. IF you're dooing anything to inhibit sleep stop doing it. Take a warm relaxing bath , learn how to do relaxation meditations and don't worry about it. I know easier said than done. Sleep is a natural& needed thing . Without music or tv or lites or noise you will be able to nod off.Hypnosis might help as well.Pills don't really work and you don't sound narcoleptic to me. Are you depressed? Sleep disturbances of any kind are a symptom of depression.
