: Has anyone ever heard of a spinal stroke,a.k.a vascular or ischemic myelopathy? I recently suffered what my doctors describe as a mild stroke. It involves partial blockage at T8, leaving me with a lot of numbness, impaired bowel and bladder function as well as paresis of the legs and a good deal of pain. I had never heard of such a thing. I am very interested in talking to anyone who has suffered this, or knows someone who has. It's aparently pretty rare. (Not quite rare enough.)
Alan, I had a spinal stroke two years ago. I also understand that this is rather rare. I would rather not have this distinction.
Mine started with a sharp pain in the back of my right leg by the time I got to the emergency room I was paralyzed from the waist down. I spent 17 days in the hospital and was in physical therpy for 9 months. To make a long story short I now can walk without the aid of braces and a lot of the control on urinary and bowel has returned. I would be happy to talk to you if you think it would help. I hope that you continue to improve.
