(obviously) my name is Elizabeth and I'm 14. I live in New Jersey, and I was born with scoliosis. I was officially diagnosed in 1993, at age 7. I started out with an 8-degree curve, and currently I have 2 curves in my upper back, and they equal 40-degrees. I was put into a Boston Brace at age 12; wore it for 2 years, and doctors then informed me that it apparently had no effect on correcting my scoliosis. I had 2 choices: have a post spinal fusion or let my spine get continually worse. I chose the operation. My surgery is scheduled for July 13, 2000, and I have to admit that I am scared. The amount of human error that could occur alarms me. Yea, yea, everyone tells me that "the chances are one in a million" but I always think "hey, maybe I'm the one in a million that will die during the surgery, or come out of the operation with problems. I am an avid dancer, as mentioned above, and I have hopes and dreams of being a professional dancer when I grow up. If anyone out there has been through the surgery, please e-mail me before my surgery date!!!! (July 13, 2000)
