I also had a IDET with no relief from pain. 3 weeks later I had a fusion with instrumentation. It has been almost 8 weeks now and though I can not tell you I am pain free or anywhere close to that, I can assure that my surgery experience was a positive one. There are a lot of horror stories out there. Some are true and some are not. My surgery was done at the Cleveland Clinic and my pain was closely monitored and kept tolerable. I was on a self-administered morphine pump for the first 4 days, then onto Perkaset pills. For me, I was the most scared about the pain from surgery going into it. Now I know that I wasted a lot of precious time worrying at all. I think you should try the fusion...for many people it is very promising and works wonders. Just remember that your doctors and nurses aren't going through what you are. They probably never have or never will. Tell them what you need, what you think, how you feel and they will help you.
