: Hi, I've recently has L5-S1 fusion and I have been unable to quit smoking. I smoke on and off 2-3 days at a time. Am I seriously reducing my chances of succesful fusion?
I recently had a fusion on C5&C6. It seems to be fusing together nicely. They tell you to quit smoking because yes it isn't good for the bones that are trying to heal. It is hard to quit tho mostly when your under any stress and a fusion and surgery does cause stress. I didn't quit and I'm fusing ok but that isn't to say it's right.
