: I did get the lumbar fusion from L-4 to S-1 after trying all the conservative methods. It started years ago (1989)with terrible pain in my back and down my legs. In 1990 I had a discectomy at L-5/S-1 and just last year after years of complaining to all my doctors I found an excellent surgeon willing to work with me to find the cause. I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disk Disease. I had the fusion in Dec. 1998 and I thank God I did. I have had zero problems with my back since. Yes, it's scary and painful, but it is well worth the couple months of rehab to go without the constant pain and the depression that results from such pain. Just make sure you have found a doctor who is well known and has all the qualifications needed. And most of all, a doctor that you trust, this is very serious surgery, do all your homework. It has truely been a blessing for me, good luck
Kelly--Please respond to me via Email--you are one of the few I have seen post a positive result. I am considering anterior interbody fusion at L4/5--in a ton of pain but o/w functional...
