: Hi all. An ortho doc friend looked at my year old xrays the other day and said my condition is "non-surgical". I'm not sure If I should be relieved or dissapointed because I don't want to live with this pain and hoped that at least surgery may be a last resort. I didn't speak to him, actually my boyfriends brother did. Doc is their father. Still don't know if I have spondylolisthesis as originally diagnosed years ago or spondylisis or losis (arthritis of lumbar region), or... Need furthur details, but just wondering if others with either of these conditions have been told it is "non-surgical" and have been dissapointed as I am. Just not sure if he means its non-surgical now and would prescribe more conservative alternatives FIRST or that surgery WILL NOT correct it at all. Guess I have to wait for more info. Just curious about opinions at this point. Thanks
Don't wait to get it checked out. I have it and I am feeling the effects. You might ask for a flexion xray where the bend you over to see how much slippage is going on and a MRI may reveal more. The Neurology Webforum has a lot of info on Spondylolisthesis if you want to check it out.
