: : : I was in very very excruciating pain before my L5 S1 surgery. I had a anterior discectomy and fusion(graft from hip) using the BAK titanium cages. I no longer have back pain. Its been 17 months now. HOWEVER!!!!!
: : : become educated. I now am physically disabled and have Cauda Equina Syndrome as a result of surgery.

: : Sorry to hear about your complication. I will have one done soon but it will be in my L4 L5. Tell me more...TY

: First let me say that Im sure you will be alright. My problem is that I didnt research the dr. who operated on me and made a bad decision. I had an anterior discetomy and fusion and the next day was back in surgery for a posteriior laminectomy. I had disc fragments all over my back and a dural sac tear. I woke from surgery disabled. I have Cauda Equina Syndrome which is a paralysis of sorts of the bladder and bowel. I cannot urinate on my own, I have to catheterize my self several times a day, additionally i have to take senecot and a enema every other day to have a bowel movement. I have some numbness from the waist down, completely on my buttocks and vagina, parts of my legs and feet, I walk really funny now and use a cane. I cannot get up on my tippytoes either and have muscle atrophy in my calfs. But Hey, who's complaining!!!!(LOL) if you'd like to correspond feel free to email me too.
: I'll be praying for you and I know you will be okay.` Lynne

Lynne.....I had a discogram and ended up with a real bad disc infection affecting my healthy disc....my infectious control MD did not want me to have surgery for at least 18 mos to 2 yrs...I needed the BAK fusion in my L4 L5 region prior to my discogram but I don't know at this point of my disc damage post discogram...I just hope I will not need the fusion after all....maybe the abcess will fuse them together...you have tremendous courage even with your disability...I have been housebound due to this disability and I have trouble coping up....more power to your inner strenght...God bless!
