I was diagnosed in Dec. of last year as having SI joint disorder, and basically told what your dr. told you, to rest. When the shooting pains turned in to crippling hip pain, I went back to the dr. twice. Finally, he refered me to a podiatrist, who discovered that my left leg is 1/2" shorter than my right. A few weeks of (very painful) steroid shots and one lift for my shoe later, I am Pain free!!!!! That might be an angle to check out if your pain doesn't go away. I never would have thought to go to a foot dr. for back pain, but it worked.
