: : I have been diagnosed with Spondylolisthesis. It never seemed to bother me until the birth of my last child, a year and half ago. I have done physical therapy, which in my opinion was a complete waste of time. I'm not really for the idea of any steriod injections. The orthopedic surgeon I have been seeing, of course would like to do surgery. But in my opinion and after reading horror stories on the web, that doesn't sound like a route I want to go. Does anyone know of any natural remedies that can help? Or at least, any other ideas other than a fusion? Thank you for any help or ideas.
: Hi, Clarice. I have a spondylolisthesis at L5 and had a fusion in 1984 and again in 1992. Neither of these were successful, and as the condition was left for so long in between bouts of surgery, I have developed a great many further complications. Life at 30 is difficult and very painful. In 17 years of back pain the most effective relief that I have experienced has been through learning deep relaxation techniques from a qualified hynotherapist. This has enabled my pain to lessen to the extent that I can now attempt exercise including swimming and hill-walking and the cycle of pain is now breaking rather than worsening. Good luck with your quest for pain relief.
