: I would like to hear from anyone who has had pedical screws put in their back with back surgery. I had a 3 leval fusion with pedical screws put in my back and have had to have 4 other surgeries since, the last one being on Oct.1999 with the dr. going thru my stomach, it was a 10 hour surgery, and am still in constant pain. I need a support group or someone to talk to who knows what I'm going thru. Please respond ASAP.

I have had 2 spine surgeries. I also have pedicle screws. One of my screws broke after my first durgery and I needed the second surgery to repair the broken screw. They needed to go back in through my stomache as well. I wasn't able to walk very long. I have severe nerve damage and they thought I had cauda equina syndrome. I had the start of RSD in my foot. My back problems have very much affected my bladder, bowel and feet. In between my 2 back surgeries they operated on my hip and I still have alot of hip pain. I have good days and bad. I am able to walk longer now. Somedays I wish I never had my surgeries and other days I am thankful I had it. I have had 8 surgeries in 6 years. Not all back though. My last back surgery was 3 years ago. I live with my abilities and pain everyday. There are people and family you will come across who think you are faking or over exagerating. Those people won't realize it, unless it happens to them. You do need a support person. Depression comes from your inability to function and from pain. I don't work. I have just learned to survive through everything 1 day at a time. Give it time. You will go through ups and downs with the pain, the numbing and all that stuff that comes with spine problems. I started feeling little changes for the better after the 1 year mark. I wish you luck. Please know that there are people out there who are in the same shoes as you. I am one of them. Good luck.
