: : anyone have this did you have surgery how serious what was outcome
: Hi Sherry:
: I had a synvial cyst on my lumbar spine. It affected three disc spaces. I had pain down my right leg to my ankle and toes. I have been in this degree of pain for six months.
Hi,
I had surgery for removal of such a cyst nearly 4 years ago, while living and working in Belgium. Before hand I had over a year of horrible pain. After surgery, pain was 90% eliminated and all was great. Apparently my spine is not the greatest, a slight bend here and a couple vertabraes not aligned. NOW, 4 years later all the symptoms are recurring and I am not a happy camper. So off to strange doctors to see what is up.
: I could walk okay but when I went to run, my leg was a wet noodle, it would not respond to my wishes. I was operated on about five week ago. My leg pain is completely gone and I have just finished therapy. I am going to the gym on a regular bases now. I love to hike and ski. I may not ski next winter but I have already hiked.
: I did a four mile hike last Saturday and was able to carry a tem pound pack without any pain.
: You can E-mail me with any other questions. My E-mail address is skimtngal @ postmark.net. If I can answer them I will gladly.
: The surgeron said that my synovial cyst was cause by severe osteoarthritis. I feel like it was caused by a fall that I had in February. I tore my hamstring muscle in a back country skiing accident. I have not had a good year.
: I do not know of any other treatment than surgery.
: Since my cyst was pressing on a nerve root, I did not have any other options.
: I would be interested in hearing from another synovial cyst patient. Good luck, Nanc
