THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION OF THE CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS SURGERY: I have been there and done that!! My disc was the C6-C7 and it ruptured and fragmented with sharp points pressing on the spinal nerve. I was told without the surgery any small trauma would cause paralysis. Needless to say i opted for the surgery. This took place in March '97. I had the bone taken from my hip. It was a very excrutiating pain and I was bruised as if someone ran over me with a car.The pain was similar.Your walking will be limited and painful. The 8 weeks they tell you that you will be back at work, well lets just say that I still am not back!! 4 years later!! I have a horrendous scar on the front of my neck as this is where my Dr.(at that time) liked to enter.I also have a large scar on my hip that still is bothersome. I also have pain in my hip joints now that wasn't there before. I have to walk with a cane. I forgot to mention I'm 42 years old, a Husband, 2 children,2 step-children, and I have been married for 21 years. I used to handle everything. Taking care of the house, finances, children, etc. Now my Husband and my 14 year old son have to do it all because I can no longer do any of my jobs because of the worsening of my pain over the years following my surgery!! I have gone through Physical Therapy, massage therapy, epidural's, Trigger point injections, accupuncture, cortisone shots, meditation, Botox injections, etc. everything known possible to fight the pain I have tried and it just keeps getting worse. This past New Year's eve while on the way home from the pharmacy I was rear-ended and it has worsened the pain that I thought couldn't get any worse. WRONG
I now have a protruding disc at C5 as well. Will I have surgery again?? NO WAY!!!!!
I pray for you all if you have the surgery that it turns out better for you than me but I felt compelled to at least tell you of some of the horrors I've gone through and continue to struggle
with. If you have any further questions I would be happy to answer all that I can. Write me at:
Froglou22@aol.com Thank you, God Bless each of you!! Cindy
