John, try to remember that for you this is a major operation and as with any surgery, there are no guarantees on the outcome. BUT the surgeons really do have this operation down pretty good and for them it's a routine procedure. I assume that you have found they will go in the front of you neck to do the surgery? When I found that out I was VERY apprehensive... even cancelled my first surgery date. Then the pain came back and I made a date and resolved myself to the fact that there was nothing else I could do to get pain relief. I'm in my sixth week of pain free living, now and if you asked me would I do it again, I would. I know that this is a place where the "world gone wrong" cases show up and though I am terribly concerned and sympathetic to their cases, this is also a place where people come to LEARN about their impending surgeries. That's why I posted the good results. We need to hear those, too. For the most part the neurosurgeons have studied to become adept at these procedures and it's wonderful that they can bring a better life and healing to most of us.
These efforts need to be praised.
Keep your chin up! If you are using donor bone instead of your own it will be that much less painful. You will be amazed at the results.
I was.

: Howdy!! Thank you for a good news story. It does seem like the majority of the postings are not real shiny. It is encouraging that we all hear some good news and realistic details of what we can realistically expect to happen to the rest of us that are pending surgury. I am scheduled to go in on the 6th of Nov. I am a little aprehensive of this. It about drove me crazy many years ago when I had to have a spinal tap. NOW, they are going in and play with my spinal cord. I am really looking forward to getting rid of the constant buzzing in my limbs. On the other hand, I keep reading about Cristopher Reeve, and that really bothers me. Keep us posted on your progress. It really helps me to keep a positive attitude. Thanks. JoHn
