: : I just want to leave a message here for everyone facing a cervical fusion surgery. I want you to know that mine went well and I am in much less pain than before. I can't say I'm pain free, but I am pretty close.
: : It's very scarey and then you log on here for information and you hear a lot about the cervical surgeries that didn't work. But I just want to put my two cents worth in here to say yes, it CAN and DOES.
::I had the discs at C5-6, and C6-7 removed 7 years ago with a bone graft from my hip. The neck felt better immediatley, and had little pain during recovery. the hip part hurt much worse - would have had a donor graft if I had it to do over. I am currently having problems due to bone spurs and spinal stenosis - unfortunately my enitire spine down to my lumbar area is arthritic. But the cervical fusion was well worth it -cannot imagine living in that horrible pain forever.
are limitations to what you can doo, but that's a much better trade-off for the pain that I was in.
: : The radiculopathy is nearly gone and I hope to resume work sometime in the months ahead.
: : My hip is sore; I chose not to use the cadaver donor bone... just a personal issue that I wish maybe I could reverse now!! haha
: : After the surgery my neck virtually did not hurt from the operation. I had a hoarse throat, but nothing too bad.
: : I hope I can still say the same things a year from now.
: : This message is just to give courage to those who have been through every other option and are still in pain.
: : It's not so bad to be rid of the pain...!
: : Just be sure you have a good surgical team.
: : My doctor did little nerve conduction tests all through the surgery.
: : Good luck and feel better!

: Howdy!! Thank you for a good news story. It does seem like the majority of the postings are not real shiny. It is encouraging that we all hear some good news and realistic details of what we can realistically expect to happen to the rest of us that are pending surgury. I am scheduled to go in on the 6th of Nov. I am a little aprehensive of this. It about drove me crazy many years ago when I had to have a spinal tap. NOW, they are going in and play with my spinal cord. I am really looking forward to getting rid of the constant buzzing in my limbs. On the other hand, I keep reading about Cristopher Reeve, and that really bothers me. Keep us posted on your progress. It really helps me to keep a positive attitude. Thanks. JoHn
