: I will undergo cervical fusion with hardware and a bone graft this month. I'm interested in getting opinions and experience from those who have gone through this surgery as to best choice for the bone source use in the graft - bone bank or the patients own bone (removed from hip). So far I have found little info that would dissuade me from going the bone bank route and fore going the additional surgical procedure, possible additional complication and recovery time. Can you help??
Had lumbar fusion with the bone bank. My doc said if I had been a smoker or not in general good health, he would've removed it from the hip. He also said that smokers have al lower success rate going the bone bank route. Fusion and hardware are doing great.
