: My wife (27yrs old) had undergone a BAK Interbody Fusion in Sept of 1999. Two weeks after surgery, she was readmitted in the hospital complaining of high fevers, Red & white and Potassium counts low and pain in her abdomen. She had several test done - blood, CAT scan etc. The tests showed she had an abscess or a hematoma. The doctors concluded that it will dissolve and it was not infected. Since then, she was release and no one had followed up on her. She also developed skin lesions (fluid draining from these lesions), tremendous weight lost down from 130lbs to 95 + due to lymphocele and problems with her bowels (spending several hours in bathroom because her excretion were in pockets).
: Except for family doctor - In Jan. of 2000, her feet, legs, and abdomen started to swell. Her Red White and Potassium were very low and have been since the operation. She was admitted to another hospital only for her potassium. They weren't concerned about the hematoma. The CAT scans still showed it was there and did not get any smaller.
: After her release, she visited a neurosurgeon for her back to get a second opinion about the surgery. He saw her body swelling and he suggested to see a gast. intest. hematogist at his hospital. He believed it was a lympocele that he hadn't seen since he had became a doctor.
: March 2000, the g/i doctor was helping my wife for her bowel problems and admitted her in the hospital for more testing. The CAT scan showed the lymphocele in the iliac region and can't explain why it was swelling. He requested a general surgeon to get involved. The general surgeon decided to do surgery on the lymphocele. He created a window to drain the lymphocele into the cavity. The swelling went down, was able to go to the bathroom normally etc it was great, life getting back together. Two weeks later, she was having problems again. The lymphocele was back - the window had closed.
: The general surgeon argued that it couldn't come back. He did not how what else he could do and would not listen to me. I did alot of research in the lymphocele area. I told him of the procedures. He said that they don't do these types of surgeries. drainage/povdine iodine is what I suggested - he told me to go to Florida where this was done - I told him it will be dangerous for her to fly with the swelling.
: What are some conditions to a lymphocele living with it for about a year?
: Besides lyphoedema. Who can help? Are there any experts? I think they need to do more surgery for the amount of time wasted and for her health.
: Can u help or suggest?
: We also found out that the titanium screws are in wrong! Nerve damage may be causing most of her symptoms, nerve in her hip still bothers her and can not feel a thing in her upper thigh.
: NO ONE IN THE PHILADELPHIA AREA can help or doesn't want to help because of all the problems. I hate to see her live like this - no life in pain etc - are there other procedures that can be done?
: Thank you for listening
