MRI reads...Marrow signal is satisfactory and disc signal is satisfactory. At C5/C6 one notes a herniated central disc
compressing the spinal cord. This is causing some narrowing of the lateral recess bilaterally. The remainder of the level shows
no evidence of herniated nucleus pulposus or spinal stenosis throuhgout.

History....Rear ended 5 years ago...migraines, neck pain and some numbness since, have a sore neck for 4 months now (not
sure why) middle of one day about 2months ago, sitting on couch and could not move neck for about 10 hours, trouble getting
out of bed for about 5 days afer. Then back to soreness and numbness down arms (again for 4 months). Wake up worse.
Follow up visit for neurologist couple weeks ago and told him that neck has really been nothering sent. Sent for MRI with
above results. He has not seen MRI films but seeing neurosurgeon next month. Went for PT. TOld nerves in arm are extremely
spastic - did 2 bouts of traction and feel there is no more that they can do. Do not want surgery. Any ideas. PT said since it is
compressing spinal cord makes more serious so I feel he is reluctant to do more? Is this true? Are there degrees where hitting
spinal cord more something? When I look at MRI I can see it is pushing spinal cord but does not look like it pushing it too
badly? Would like some thoughts? what to expect? i was surprised that PT thought they could not do much (he wanted to quit
after 2nd traction) w/o seeing MRI (again are there varying degrees for hitting spinal cord ? can it get better? will it worsen or
stay the same?
