: : I am currently seeing an orthopedic surgeon for "impingment" in the right shoulder and a neurophisiologist(?) at least that's what I was told he was by the physical therapist that he send me to.
: : I have had x-rays and MRI's done on bothe my right shoulder and my cervicle spine.
: : I was told that I had bulging discs in c5-6 and c6-7.I have a high level of pain in my right shoulder and it often (upon reaching for somehthing) makes a "popping" sound and feels like it is getting reaady to come out of the "socket".
: : The PT says some of the pain in the shoulder could be from the neck problem but they're not sure. The orthopedic surgeon says he can fix the shoulder (this only after 6 trips and 3 cortisone & "novicane" injectons to isolate where the problem is).
: : The neurowhats-his-name doesn't seem to have a clue.
: : Would I be better off going to a neurosurgeon? **That's what I thought I was being sent to by the orthopedic surgeon! The "neuro-----" works FOR the orthopedic surgeon at his office. I thinks I may smell a rat looking for as much $ out of me as possible before they "farm me out" to another doctor's office.
: : Any ideas out there??:
: Go with your gut, If it smells like a rat, run. I would get away from that group and get a second opinion. I had a hernaited disc at c6-7 repaired I'm doing good, but it aint fun :). You want to be sure. Good luck.neurosurgeons specialize in the nerves and ortho the bones. working with the neck is definately a nerve drs. place. your whole nervous system is connected at the neck. I had the same problem for a few years. Like everyone I put it off evern went to chiropractor. Guess what the pain got worse. and I lost muscle from favoring my left arm and shoulder. The pain was horrible. At first motrin would help then nothing did not even pain killers. I knew it was time. I live in the Albany ny area and went to amch for my surgery 7 weeks post/op I am doing great. collar has been off for 2 weeks and i amd going back to work jan 2. I am not a youngster either. 47 years old. I too had that popping feeling in my shoulder and since the surgery and physical therapy...which is hard work and all up to you.....it has gotten much better. it is from weakness and the tendon slipping over that weak muscle. I wa lucky I had no nerve damage which is what the neurologist first thought when he saw just how weak the muscle were after the surgery. But just muscle and that can and is getting better. Good luck don't wait any longer. Most neutosurgeons will not operate on just anyone. YOu have to really need the surgery. I went to the dr and therapy and chiropractor off and on for many years until this last time I just said no more and I am glad I did. I could have lost use of my arm. your neck C56 and C67 control your shoulders and arm movement and feeling. The first couple days are tough but it gets better before you know it. I also opted to use my own hip for fusion, adn i did and did not do just what the dr said. didn't try to be a superwoman. good luck
