Posted by Kurt on December 18, 2000 at 18:29:09:I am 21 and have had scoliosis since I was 12. I grew up in a poor family and although
the school nurse saw the curve when I was 12, we were never informed of the severness or had the
money to visit a doctor or choropracter. Now 9 years later, the pain is getting worse. Over the summer I visited a chiro 3 times a week for 2 months.
I was taken out of a 7 mile road race 2 weeks before raceday, all my conditioning and hard work was wasted.
My running basketball carreer have been crushed because (told by the chiro) my body is working extra
hard to make up for the extra work it must do with your curve, therefore conditioning is not working like
it should.I don't know the curve angle (going to look at x-rays Weds) but I could be 3 inches taller w/o it,
I am 6' 5" now, so the chiro says.My chiro helps with the pain, but it is always there and I am looking for a more permanent solution.
I have an excellent job, so cost is no longer a factor either. I have heard of posterior spinal fusion.
Is this something I should look into??? I have read some articles, it sounds painful, but worth it.
Where can I find more information???Reccomend exercises, doctors, anything?!?!
Thanks you so much,
Kurt Willey
