: I am 41 years old and am having severe burning pain in my shoulder area. It started about 7 months ago as stabbing pain down my left arm. I have since had aching in my neck area (sometimes needing to wear a soft cerival collar) and aching in my left shoulder blade. I have had 3 epidural injections, which helped my stabbing and back area. I have had physical therapy, which made my shoulder much worse. I have had 2 MRI's and an EMG test. I am going this week for a mylogram and CAT scan. I have been diagmosed with degenerative narrowing at the C5-6 disk space and some spondylitis ridging, along with C7 radiculopathy. I am on medical leave. This pain is very severe. I have been very physically active my whole life, and now I hardly leave my house. Can anyone tell me more about this burning pain? My surgeon is checking to see if I have bone spurs that is causing a pinched nerve in my shoulder. I am concerned that this burning is a cause of nerve damage???? Should surgery help?
I had the same problems for several months actually started 5 years ago. It always went away with therapy so I assumed it was tension and muscle tightening. I was always gettting stiff necks for no apparent reason and headaches that never stopped. I had been seeing the same neuro for many years. Finally I wnet to his office and he recommended anterior cervical fusion. Since he had my old mri and scans he could see and alos showed me how I had gotten worse through the years. I had the surgery 8 weeks ago and am talking about going back to work jan 3 i/2 days. I lost all muscle in my left arm and work daily on getting it back. I could not even raise my arm to brush my teeth or hair. Now i am getting the arm above my head and it doesn't hurt. The first couple of weeks afer the surgery were tough. But stay positive and all will be fine trust you surgeon .. he knows whats best. I also went to chiro which made me alot worse. When you need surgery nothing is going to change that. You can be bulled about that all you want but its your time your losing. I have not been sorry even though the recovery is slow,,,my hip still gets stiffened up. But I can hold my neck and shoulders straight now with no pain. Good Luck.
