: : Hi, I am 33 and extremely active, I have two lower degenerated disks, I have had P.T., chiropractics, and two epidural shots. I want surgery to alleviate the problem and get back to being active, any advice is graetly appreciated.

: Hi, I was 31 when I had a work related injury that agrivated a congenital problem, called spondylolisthesis (L4-5), that I had never had a problem with before. I underwent 11 months of P.T. and E.S.I.'s before opting for an anterior/posterior fusion. I was told that the surgery would be a pain reduction procedure, not pain elimination. To be honest, I can barely notice the difference in pain, my recovery has been extremely slow. I too was very active, ie: skiing, softball, raquetball, jet skiing, golf, and tennis... I haven't been able to do any of the above since my surgery a year ago. I have suffered significant weight gain, depression, and havent had a good nights sleep since my injury. Not to mention a serious effect on my sex life. I feel in adiquate and unable to carry on a meaningfull relationship. I thought surgery would have helped restore my life back to a fraction of what it was prior to my surgery... truth is, it has not. I wish I could give you some meaningful advise, but Ive seen what I believe to be some of the best doctors I have ever encountered with no avail. Just hang in there, get as many doctors opionions as YOU feel neccessary (not what your insurance deems neccessary) before you make a decision on what to do, and know that you are not alone.
had same surgery 1/99 my results were terrible
it's very true to get as many opinions even if
you have to pay out of your pocket, my life is
changed forever because of some really lazy doc
they screwed this surgery up and now i'll live
with it the rest of my life, more meds and tired
all the time, only do a little bit each day
i really hope this doctor's head feels like my
back, and they are all so glib about it, learn to
live with it, so no more gardening, walking
or standing for long periods, and no more employment for me i'm only 54 soon to be 55
but we all know what everyone around us say
it could be worse, well i know that too, my
husband passed away from lung cancer in 1995
i take each day has it comes, and hope you'll
feel better too
