I have spondy in the L5-S1. The symptoms I have are shooting pains in the butt (also known as sciatica), pain in the calf, and tingling in the feet. Usually it's worse when I stand for a long time, vacume the floor, or pick up something heavy. What it is is the vertebrae in that area are not lined up and one is sitting forward on top of the other one, if it's unstable, it moves.
A dr. can give you exercises that will strengthen the muscles that support the backbone. I decided that doing them was better than 3-level spinal fusion. However, the dr. said to let him know if I lose any bathroom or other functions. Hope this helps.
