: diagnosed with spinal avm(arteriovenous malformation) at t-12. Had embolization to close it off. What causes the paralysis with avm's, and other disorders such as transverse myletis? i also have a spinal avm, higher up though. paralysis is caused by the interuption of normal signals that are relayed between brain and specific body part/funtion & reverse. the signals can be either motor or sensory. the interuption can be caused by severing the spinal cord, a tear in it, bruising it....or in our case abnormal blood vessels that bleed and caused a blood clot. what type of sp. avm do you have? will your paralysis be forever or are you considered an incomplete parapalegic? i was paralyzed from the shoulders down about a year ago but now am able to walk.
