To Maryanne: I had the same symptoms thatDiane has described. After 6 months of epidural blocks, steroidal injectionsand physical therapy I wanted my life back. I had spinal fusion surgery on November 29th of last year.I am really of the opinion that you trade in sharp pain that you get through the legs and butt for a dull aching kind of pain after the surgery.I still take daily pain medication, I cannot work full time blah blah. Being very active physically prior to the surgery, I thought I would recuperate much faster.Hang in there and think long and hard before you have the surgery. : A dr. can give you exercises that will strengthen the muscles that support the backbone. I decided that doing them was better than 3-level spinal fusion. However, the dr. said to let him know if I lose any bathroom or other functions. Hope this helps.
