(Perhaps you're too young) I digress, Yes I have now read everything on Topomax and I was so excited. It was practically all I thought about last night. I can hardly wait till Monday so I can put a call in to my doctor! I can tell you are american because you spoke of lack of insurance. Fortunately I am on plan in Canada that gives me access to the medication I have been on for the last 10? years for a very reasonable fee BUT I'm afraid that Topomax may not yet be approved in Canada as a mood stabilizer. I laughed right out LOUD when I read your account of your doctor's spiel, good sense of humor! I sooo get what you said about exercise just didn't help! God I was Tae Bo'ing and riding my bike and dieting and lost 2 lbs and got it right back the next day almost. I thought it was me. I suspected it might be the medication attributing to the weight gain but it seems like that hasn't been realized or talked about here yet. THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE IS IN GOOD HUMOUR: No I don't live on a farm, I've never even been to a farm. No igloo either though it does get so cold you can actually see the ice crystals in the air! Oh Yeah and I think "The Rant" is an amusing parody of American patriotism but in no way reflects myself or any one I know. I do feel fortunate to have been born Canadian. I don't even know all the words to Canada's National Anthem anymore since some idiot decided to change the words half way through my life. I know I am talking too much! If I hear from you again I promise to respond with simple "thanks". Yeah, everything tastes different than it used to except I binge eat (unfortunately chocolate still tastes pretty good to me)Ha! I do want to know of any ill effects. I understand about how medication kind of takes away the compulsion to drink to excess. I was very close to becoming an alcoholic but strangely enough I don't even crave alcohol at all anymore and strange as this may sound, I don't swear(curse)as much as I used to, it just kind of subsided. What is "mixed mania?" and what does Lithium do? I am a married 34 male that has been diagnosed as bipolar -mixed mania- I was told about this condition when I was 17. Tried meds - thought it was a waste of time SO now after many years of drug and alcohol abuse and not being able to stop no matter how hard i tried I found that I stopped when I took my Lithium.Weight Gain,retaining water,getting so fat it hurts my back.SO....the Doctor gave me Topomax along with my Lithium and BAM! weight lost! I had to stop because I have no Insurance but now that i am blimping up again I will find some money some how
: Hello Lorie,Ok Hopefully you have looked at the other Topomax messages to get other veiw points.I for one look forward to taking the meds again.The Cost for me was $100.00 a month, but I have no insurance right now or when I took it.I took one pill a day, now get this,I am a big framed guy like a foot ball player and I go to the gym and I lift weights and swim and jogged till I hurt my back,but on the lithium it slows down your Thyroid and metabalism so no weight loss would occur with all the time in the gym.I also would binge eat since I saw nothing happening.So I told my doctor and he gave me topomax which is used for sezuries,but is seen to be very effective in Bi-polars because of the effects on the neruo-transmitters.I SAW WIEGHT LOSS IN A WEEK and it kept on comming off till I coud not afford it.I cant remember how much weight but it was comming off,and Have to say during this time of the weight loss I wasn't even IN THE GYM. Its a magic drug like the ads say LOSE WEIGHT WITH OUT WORKING OUT! but faster results happen if you do.SIDE EFFECTS :the cost,just kidding!!!!ITS worth IT.Heres something that I noticed I lost the taste for soda,it will taste like when you order a coke and the surup was not dispensed in it,I read that it kills the taste buds on caffine drinks but some coffee drinkers do not have problems.Apple juice and water and other jucies are not effected,but this is good for weight loss to stay away from soda.Which leads me into another thought,Topomax will kill your food cravings without the shakes and head aches you get when a person diets.You easily eat to live instead of live to eat.I see on other messages that it is helping binge eaters also.ONE side effect that I had that my wife did not like was I was a bit cranky for a bit but it went a way.Other than that I had no side effects,my Doctor told me why it takes off weight,besides curbing your food cravings,but it was long and high tech talk and I looked at him like I understood and was enlighten but had no clue what he just said.I had weight loss were people said "Looking good"and "Hey your losing weight"I do not get on a scale. I check it by my clothes getting to big and changing belt sizes,Im a dumb guy thats how I tell how much weight loss-IT was a lot way more than when I exerised.You every noticed that people or co workers will always point out your weight gain way more than when you lose weight.Jerks!!ha ha.Mixed mania is a form Of Bi- polar- manic depression. : most bi polars have a past of Drug and Alcohol because they are self medicating,till they get the right stuff.Lithium is a salt that was found to help the transmitters in the brain and help the mania and a other host of problems people have.Good luck!!!
