As far as I know phobias can develop suddenly... I am not 100% sure but I think so.
There are many treatments, most often I would say a phobia is treated with behavioral
therapy, like using relaxation techniques and in such a relaxed state gradually, step by step,
confront the object that scares you... like maybe first standing on top of an escalator, and so
on... if you feels the phobia impairs your life or makes you uncomfortable, you should really
think about seeing a therapist.
Of course there are medications too that relive anxiety, and in severe cases of phobias they
may be used to make any kind of therapy less distressing. But I would say it workd without
