: I am a 26y/o male a have been dealing with anxiety for 2 years and for the last year have been under very bad emotional stress. I noticed that my hair has become diffusely thin over the last 6 months and hair is coming out like crazy in the shower. Baldnees does not run in my family and I have always had very thick hair. I'm curious as to seeing if there are other prople that noticed hair loss from stress and/or anxiety. Thanks!

Flic..........I am also a 26 y/o male and I can definetly say that anxiety and stress will cause your hair to thin out and shed. I have had this occur to me since I was 18 and baldness also does not run in my family. I was diagnosed with OCD a year ago and that has put a tremendous amount of emotional stress on my bosy over the years. What I have noticed is that when I go through long periods of extreme stress my hair will start to thin out, my skin breaks out, etc.....Usually an event (such as moving, break up etc) will trigger an OCD cycle and in a few months my skin and hair problems will show up........this in turn leads to more stress and a vicious cycle starts....this last cycle has been going on for two years or so. Well, finally I went to a doctor and was diagnosed with severe stress due to OCD. I have been on medication (Celexa etc) and am getting improving results and the stress is lifting. Several of my doctors told me that stress will definetly cause the hair and skin problems and my pdoc said that she would stake her life on the fact that stress is the cause of my hair problems. Since the stress is lifting I have most definetly seen my hair start to thicken up!!! It is unreal how much improvement I have seen. My doctors told me that it usually takes 3 to 4 months to fully recover once the stress is lifted. I am not fully over my emotional stress yet (I am still workin with my doctors on finding the right medicine, dosages, etc to get the fullest benefit) but I am on the road to recovery.......Hang in there and see a doctor. I was very reluctant at first but it has made a world of difference. Sorry to ramble Flic but I know what you are going through. Solve the stress and the hair problem will be a thing of the past. Good Luck!
