: My doctor prescribed celexa to me for panic disorder with agoraphobia and phobia of vomiting. I am wary of taking it because I read that it is used mainly for depression sufferers. Have any of you used celexa for anxiety? What were your experiences? Also, did you vomit as a side effect? I am so afraid of throwing up so I would like to know. Thanks everyone!
Anna: I have used celexa for about 4-5 months, and experienced a subtle but noticeable improvement. It evened out my mood, allowed me to let go of certain angry emotions and thought obsessions, and did indeed lift some of the anxiety that stemmed from this. A lot of the SSRIs used to treat depression are also used to treat anxiety, as doctors understand the two diseases to be related in some ways (though how, I don't know). Sufferers of depression often take the drug in higher doses. I got along fine with only 20 mg of celexa daily. I recently came off the drug as an experiment: to see how well it was working. (Sometimes it's hard to tell when you're on it.) Wow--what a difference. Without it, I really notice all it was doing for me. I will say, however, that I experienced some dizziness in the first days of withdrawal.
