Excess Saliva Production After CVA

My brother-in-law had a CVA in March of 1997. Although he has recovered, he has had a problem where he is fine when he lays down, but when he stands up he has large amounts of saliva that make him want to constantly swallow. This is atypical of stroke damage. We wondered if anyone else had this problem, and if so, how it was handled. The doctors have examined him, have documented this event (its not psychological) and believe that it may have been caused by an injury to Cranial Nerve VII. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
