My father-in-law had what was called a "moderate" stroke 5 weeks ago. Initially, it appeared that he had no mental or emotional damage. Now, however, in the last 2 weeks, his memory and emotional control has worsened considerably. I know that stroke patients often have trouble controlling their emotions, but I was under the impression that it got better instead of worse as he has. I am wondering why the memory and emotional control is getting much worse. I would like to hear from anyone who has experience in regression of mental and emotional abilities after a stroke.
