My now 72 year old mother had a left side brain stroke in August of 1998. Cannot speak (can speak - just no words that make sense),
cannot write, cannot read.
I am so frustrated - I do not know what to do. She is in a nursing home, indicates a lot of pain, lately indicates her stomach is bad - can't swallow good, etc. She has been crying and indicating
more pain lately than before.
She is in a nursing home and the staff indicate she does okay until family comes around - lately she has been real bad when any of
the family is around - cries a lot, etc. She seemed to have gotten over this for a while, but is bad again.
PLEASE - would love a response from family members experiencing anything similar. My aunt and
sisters (relationship with sisters exists only to communicate if absolutely necessary re: mom) always
want something more done than is being done --- I am the one left to deal with things, it seems, and don't
know what to do.
Is my mother's reaction "normal" Anyone else experiencing this?
Mom's mind is good - which almost makes it worse - she understands and wants to express herself, but she can't, I cannot fathom how frustrating this has to be to her.
I want to do everything I can to help her - but are more tests, etc. necessary, or is this all just part of the "stroke",
as the nursing home staff indicates?????
I know strokes mess up the mind - so I am extremely at a loss as to what to do ----
can anyone advise me?
