aren't they all by surprise?
i too had a stroke in november of 92 that left me paralized on left side i was in coma for 10 days.
it took about 3 weeks for me to even believe i was paralyzed perminately.
depression is just part of the recovery process.
you may want to reconsider your ideas of the anti-depressants as they may be necessary.
the best you can do is stand by her now give her your support, god knows i'd died if my wife
hadn't and i thank god ever day she did and has continued to do so i would email to you but mine is on the blink right now.
but i do check this board every day any help i can give you will be a pleasure.
