: I have so many questions, but I'll try and make this brief. My dad, 66, suffered his second stroke in early April. He had his first stroke three years ago, thanks to therapy and rehab he was able to get along independently. His second stroke has left him in a coma and the doctors had told us he was going to die and if he didn't his quality of life would be very poor. With my father's wishes in mind, we decided to just keep him comfortable and not try to prolong his life - a tough decision nonetheless. Anyway, the doctors recommended we give him morphine and dextrose to keep him comfortable. Well, it's been 6 weeks and he's still hanging in there. A couple of weeks ago he started showing some emotion and just recently he started saying a few words at a time - our family is just amazed. However, we don't want to get our hopes up since he cannot move his body. Just wondering is anyone has ever heard of anything like this happening? If so, what was the outcome? Does my dad have a chance at recovery? Should we be feeding him through a tube? The doctors keeps telling us he doesn't, but I just would like to know if anyone has seen someone recover? Doctors can sometimes be wrong, and being that my dad is considered somewhat young - I just had to ask. If anyone has any info I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks in advance.
