To anyone with answers:
A dear friend suffered a stroke 9 months ago. His long-term memory is remarkably good with some exceptions: he forgets the death of his mother which happened 25 years ago; and he is unable to recall the date, the year and his address. He was very bright and always loved a challenge. I believe he may still.
Is it fair to him to set up daily goals for him, practice recalling the date, have daily conversations about the news, etc? I get the feeling that stimulating his mind will help. Am I wrong? I certainly don't want to make things worse for him. Also, he frequently cries and gets angry with himself for his inability to control his emotions.
Please respond to me in an email as I am new here and may have difficulty relocating this message board! Thanks in advance to anyone willing to offer practical advice and specific strategies.
