However, they seemed to have left one off. The birth control pill also causes strokes, and it's what caused mine (when I was only 22). Your friend's age is probably a good thing. I was told that if I would've had my stroke when I was older I probably would be dead. It's been a little bit over a year since my stroke and I think I'm recovering well.
As far as what you could do to help your friend, I would say be patient, because patience is really what I needed after my stroke.
