: My father had a massive hemorrahgic stroke three months ago. Luckily, he is mostly intact mentally except for some occasional confusion. He is confined to a wheelchair and needs 24-hour care. He has serious left-side neglect and is paralyzed on the left side. About three weeks ago he started moving his left leg a little and can occasionally move his left thumb and index finger. Still he cannot stand or balance on his own. Can anyone out there share their experience with my family in terms of if any one had a good physical recovery from stroke? Also, anyone had any positive effects from pool therapy?
I think I had a hemorrhagic stroke, too. It was really massive and I didn't move the left side of my body for four months. They said I had a spontaneous recovery because I was only 22 when I had my stroke. In terms of balance, my rehab had some balance beems/bars (those are two poles that you walk between in order for you to regain your balance) for me to use. I walk pretty good now, except I tend to lean towards the right when I walk (probably because I didn't move my left side for a long time).
