: having this graves disease has really put a damper on my life. at times i wished i still had hyperthyroid rather than hypothyroid, atleast i never gained weight.
: unlike now, even just drinking water i feel like i can see lbs. adding on more. i've stopped taking synthroid on my own, which i know is wrong, but... well what i desperately needed to know is....is it okay to take diet pills without consulting your physician? and what are my chances of actually losing weight? i've been seeing so many ads on tv of those fat-burning pills that i'm tempted to place an order. has anyone experienced actually going thru something like this? and how has it helped the weight loss, if any?
Kat- From my perspective the syntroid at the right level is the only way to keep trim. You need to get re-tested and find the right level for you! This is a bi-monthly ritual until you become stable then yearly. Being off the meds is not a good Idea if your thyroid is Hypo. There are a lot of health risks involved. The diet pills will (if at all) only trim you down for a while without the meds. See your doctor and discuss the options. I understand how frustrating this can be but you need to get your heath in check and the rest should follow.
I was diagnosed with Graves and had my thyroid removed. I have remained with in -if not in the lower end of the weight charts. It takes work
but a good eating pattern a bit of exercise and the right meds have helped me.
I wish you the best.
