In Reply to: What are effects of smoking, moderate alcohol, antidepressents, and moderate marijuana on thyroid levels? posted by Mmick on August 02, 2000 at 11:12:37:

I found an editorial on cigarette smoking and the thyroid.

It's

: I have a level of 5.77, and currently smoke about a half to a full pack a day (seems to help with depression and anxiety). I also occasionally have 2 beers, and a little bit of marijuana.

: I am currently taking .05 mg synthroid, 10 mgs paxil, 75 mg effexor (weening off of paxil and effexor) and started 30 mg remeron at the same time as the synthroid (a few weeks ago).
: I know that alcohol is not supposed to be good with antidepressants, but I tried both not drinking at all for over a year and drinking moderately, and it doesn't seem to affect my depression.

: This could be different now that I'm changing things, but that's been my experience. Last night I had 24 ounces of beer, and this morning my body temperature is below 97. May be related, I have to watch that.

: I also curious as to how antidepressants affect the thyroid function.

: Lots of big questions, I understand...any experiences and comments welcome.

: Thanks,
: M
