: I posted a message here a couple of weeks ago about my test results which indicated hyperthyroidism. I got some good advice and support from you guys and I'm back to ask for more! I got a referral to an Endo, who I met with last week. He has scheduled a radioactive iodine uptake scan for this Wednesday to figure out whether I have Graves or some other thyroidits.

: Yesterday morning I woke up and found a pea sized hard lump right in the middle of my neck. It wasn't there the day before and is very visible. I had feelings of pressure in my neck all day. Today it is the same, but I had a violent vomitting fit about two hours ago, along with tremors so bad that my knees kept buckling. Does anyone know what is going on with me?? All kinds of terrible thoughts are crossing my mind! I don't want to over-react but this is scaring the you-know-what out of me! I am going to call my Endo tomorrow morning, but untill then, if anyone out there knows what this could be I'd love to know.

: I have also developed some kind of patchy rash on my neck and sternum over the past week. I have a little mole on the end of my collar bone which has become rough and inflamed. What is going on??
: Samantha

Hi Samantha,

Great to see that your new Endo is getting you in for a RAI uptake scan. Has anyone put you on anti-thyroid drugs yet? If so which one? Some people have bad allergic type reactions to either the PTU or the Tapazol. The vomiting and tremors from that might be due to that. If you are taking one of them, you could ask to switch to the other to see if that helps.

Take a good look at and around that lump on your neck (perhaps have someone else look at it) to see if there might be a very small puncture. Could be a small insect bite, spiders among other small insects are very active in this heat. The lump could be a lymph node enlargement from it? Some very small insects bites can cause a lot of different reactions on and near the area.

HyperT can also cause spells of vomiting in some people (me among them) and the tremors are almost always present with hyperT so it's hard to tell on that.

Do call your endo tomorrow if it continues, tonight if it doesn't improve or it get worse! If you can't reach him in that case, go to the ER.

Are you still taking the Beta Blockers? How has it gone with those, are you monitoring your BP closely? Sincerely, Tina
