: I am on synthroid for 3 years.. I am menopausal My throat is so dry ?? what is armour
Armour is a natural desiccated thyroid made from hormone of pigs. It contains all the natural thyroid hormones (T4, T3, T2, & T1) that are known at this time. With Snythroid what you are getting is the synthetic T4 only. T4 is the inactive hormone, which is converted by your body to T3 (the active hormone). Little is known about T2 and T1, just that they exist. Some of us do not convert the synthetic T4 to T3 and will show this in a Free T3 test and can benefit by adding it either to our synthetic T4 only drug (such as Snythroid) by adding a synthetic T3 such as Cytomel or the T4/T3 synthetic combination
drug Thyrolar. Then there are some of us (me included) that need a natural thyroid hormone perhaps because of the T2 and T1 or other as yet unknown elements in the natural thyroid hormone. Armour is only one of a few natural thyroid medications.
