HIVES!!! Please help me!!!

Hello. I am a 21 yr. old female. About a year ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I started taking Synthroid and my symptoms, including terrible depression, went away. I have been feeling as close to "normal" as I ever have.
Two weeks ago, I started breaking out into hives. I can't figure out why. I can't trace it to any allergy, any new contacts or foods. I'm always stressed, right now probably less than usual, so I can't trace it to that. Yesterday, I finally went to the doctor. I have already been on Claritin for months. He gave me a strong Depo steroid shot, prescribed an additional antihistimine, and told me to use Caladryl lotion. None of these things have cured the itching. Possible helped a little, but not nearly enough! The itching is driving me crazy! I have scratched my arms and legs so much there are little sores from it covering them. I'm getting increasingly irritable and taking it out on people around me. The hives are starting to wake me up at night and keep me from being able to sleep.
How likely is it that my hives are caused somehow by my underactive thyroid? Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? If it helps, the hives started on my wrists, then to my ankles, and my throat itches a lot when I wake up in the morning. It pretty much itch all over all day. Any help would be so appreciated. I am about to go back to school for my senior year of college and this is so bad it's preventing me from being ready - mentally or otherwise. Please help me! Thank you!
