: : My blood work says I have an overactive thyroid. My doctor says I have none of the symtoms and in fact, quite the opposite. I have been gaining weight, instead of losing. I am really tired instead of hyper. Have any of you faced this dilemma and how have you solved your problem? I am really new to this and a little scared.
: Some times when you have been hyper for a while your body reacts by eating more than normal and it is working so fast your tired alot. The best thing to do in my opinion is to get your thyroid levels back with in the normal range. other sites to check are www.endocrineweb.com and www. about.com go to health and t then look at the list and you will see thyroid.
:I also have an overacive thyroid. I'm tired, emotional and I have gained some weight too. I wouldn't worry too much about your symptoms if the blood work says you have hyperthyroidism. Your doctor will probably do some test to find out more information. Maybe an iodine test which test your activity level in your thyroid or a sonogram of your thyroid. I was strange to because my first blood tests were
completely normal yet my thyroid is so enlarged that it is pushing my traechea around!? Anyhow, try not to worry because I hear thyroid problems are very common and can be fixed some-what easily. It just takes time and I know for me I hate waiting when I don't feel good, but I look forward to the day I wake up and feel great. Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to ask. Also, make your
Doctor or the nurse explain more to you. They think we are mind-readers sometimes. You could call or make a special appointment so that you can find out the information you need. If you don't feel like your Doctor is doing what he or she should be doing then switch. I had to switch my Doctor because she and her staff were being lazy about finding out what was wrong. Things take time, but they were flat out lazy. I sure hope you
have a good Doctor. It makes all the difference in the world. Take care. :) Dawn
