: Can anyone who is knowledgeable in herbs tell me if kelp is a better alternative to the conventional meds like synthroid? I dont like the synthroid, and wanted to try something more natural....please answer. thanks
Hi Mag, There are a lot of different oppinions about the use of Kelp or anything else that contains iodine. From what I've read so far, if you have either of the autoimmune diseases ( Hashi's or Grave's) using anything high in iodine is like pouring grease on a fire.
For more information on it go to http://thyroid.about.com/health/thyroid/library/weekly/aa032400a.htm?terms=Iodine+and+Kelp#3 and read this interview http://thyroid.about.com/health/thyroid/library/weekly/aa071700a.htm. Hope something there helps, Tina
