: Hi. I had my left lobe removed when I was 14 for a follicular adenoma. I was put on Synthroid with the thinking it would preven a recurrence. I've been on the same dose (.125) since 1977. I had my third child in March. I was tested three times during my pregnancy and once 6 weeks after with normal results. At 4 months I was rechecked and the levels were high. They've knocked the dosage down to .1 and still don't have it regulated. Is this normal? It just seems strange to have it change suddenly after 23 years and I wondered whether the right lobe could be doing something. The doctor's explanation was that "your body changes the way it absorbs hormones" - so no big deal. Any thoughts? Thank you....sharon

Sharon, It sounds as if it is not typical for you but it is quite normal. Both my prenancies caused medication changes. I had a total thyroidectomy. I have been told it takes about a year for your hormone levels to return to normal and as you know each pregnancy is different. If you have been seeing this Dr for quite a while and the Dr isn't too concerned I wouldn't be either. Remember to get your blood work done regually until you level off. Watch what you eat, Calcium and iorn can cause absorbtion problems. Unfourtunatly only time can tell.
