My TSH was close to the so-called normal range at 5.6, but actually did need additional thyroid med.
I need to be under 2 to be healthy. Low temp was just the beginning of becoming seriously ill with inability to control body temperature, extremely low pain threshhold, hair loss, mental fog, forgetting to a serious degree, depression, and many others.
Thyroid is nothing to play around with, outside a doctor's care. I also recommend reading lots of the archived research and interview articles on about.com/thyroid. It was thru this board and that one that I finally got the support, diagnosis, and treatment that I need.
Now, on the replacement thyroid, after a year, I am mostly well, still just a little mental fog. My doc is going to try replacing part of my T4 with soem T3, next visit in November, which hopefully will fix that.
Did you know that the end result of untreated hypothyroidism is dementia? I hate taking pills all the time too, but this one I don't mind.
Don't wait til you DO get all the symptoms!
Please don't self-medicate.
