Hi Paula,
That is my basic story too, but it was more like 18 years of serious symptoms, called fibromyalgia, mental, etc, that I was disabled by. I just sat and cried from the shooting pain, though no one knew why I had it. I found help thru the internet, recognizing symptoms, though not all of mine were regular ones, since I was experiencing a crash of female hormones also.
I posted my LOOOOONG story here a few times, but it has long since been trimmed off the board. I sure can relate to the anger, because I was FURIOUS. But I decided to use my anger energy to help steer others to proper info, and encourage them not to give up looking for their answers.
Which I did for many months on this board.
My endo is a MD, and she is Pat Ostrander at MedClinic in Sacramento CA. She knows I put her name on here and on Mary Shoman's thyroid forum list of great doctors. She told me that if the synthetics are not working, they likely are not a high enough dose. She has worked to get my TSH down to just above one, where I feel pretty good. But we plan to tweak it a bit with T3, on trial basis on my next visit in November.
It took me a year to recover from my hypothyroidism, which showed up at a TSH of just 2. So that was not enough thyroid for ME.
I am so happy for your successful recovery, and great doctor. Happy sharing! TF
